The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union disapproves and condemns recent expulsions of African Immigrants by the Government of Italy. H.E. Prof Alpha Oumar stresses the need for the observance of human and humanitarian rights of immigrants, the principles of which are less and less observed by the Authorities of host countries. He reiterates that systematic expulsions cannot be a sustainable and praiseworthy policy. He therefore calls on countries of origin, countries of transit and host countries to enter into a frank and sincere dialogue with a view to developing an immigration policy which takes into account the interests and dignity of Africa and Africans, as well as the balanced functioning of host countries.
