The equal treatment of men and women has been a fundamental principle of the European Union since its inception and the concept of gender equality is central to all its activities. The present brochure presents an overall view on the approach, principles and instruments used by the European Commission to ensure gender equality in the European Union, as well as the priorities in terms of future developments.
