"The government of India’s Punjab state is turning to reverse osmosis treatment plants to reduce water pollution in groundwater sources. A recent Punjab state water department survey found that 1,166 of its nearly 7,000 projects were contaminated with heavy metals including arsenic and uranium beyond permissible limits. According to a Punjab health department study, there are 23,874 cancer patients in the state and 33,318 people have lost their lives to the deadly disease in the last five years."
