Human Rights Issues Raised by the Transfer of Asylum Seekers to Third Countries
“The system of processing asylum seekers’ claims in third countries raises a number of questions about whether in doing so, Australia is complying with its international human rights obligations. As Australia’s national human rights institution, the Australian Human Rights Commission is mandated to monitor the Australian Government’s compliance with the obligations set out in the international human rights treaties to which Australia is a party. This paper provides an outline of the recent changes and an analysis of human rights issues raised by the transfer of asylum seekers to third countries.” (Quoted from paper)
