"On January 1, 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement created a free-trade area, removing virtually all restrictions on trade and investment flows between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Most of those barriers had already been eliminated between the United States and Canada, so the main new feature of NAFTA was the removal of the barriers between Mexico and those two countries."
