The global estimate of subsidies to fisheries ranges between $15-34 billion. The EU is a large contributor to this number and believe this is one of the leading causes of over-fishing. They hope to create a plan to cut subsidies and to create sustainable fisheries. Prior to the EU, important fishing nations like Indonesia and Ecuador have also shown serious interest in reforming their fisheries subsidies policies.
