It is estimated that by 2020 40 million Americans will speak Spanish, a growth of 3 million since 2011. Though the number of Spanish speakers is growing the number of latino Spanish speakers in America is declining. The reason is believed to be related to a large 3rd generation of immigrants that do not need to speak Spanish and do not speak the language at home.
