Human Trafficking Curriculum at IS 229, the Bronx
Human trafficking is a worldwide scourge, and even occurs here in the the United States. Understanding that and ending the practice was the mission of students and teachers at IS 229 in the Bronx on Nov. 14th.
Speakers, including school social worker Jaime Roure and social studies teacher Robert Kurtz, offered background for the foundation’s drive to create a New Proclamation of Freedom on Jan. 1, the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The new proclamation calls upon the U.S. Department of Education to facilitate the implementation of an ongoing National Human Trafficking Education Program in schools nationwide.
