Education
Joseph received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in the US in May 2010.
In Aug 2010, he began pursuing a M.S. in Sustainable Energy Engineering at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden.

Areas of Interest
Energy efficiency, green buildings and sustainable communities, renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, geothermal, etc), the interaction between people and energy, applying technology to solve problems, environmental issues, natural sciences, outdoor and experiential education, teambuilding/group dynamics, immigration issues, literature, film, and liberty and fundamental rights.

Personal
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, Joseph has been interested in the environment since a young age, when he was a participant in Boy Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

He held several positions as an engineering intern at major international corporations before deciding to blend his engineering education and environmental aptitude and pursue a career in the sustainable energy field. This prompted him to move to Sweden in 2010 and begin a master’s program focused on Sustainable Energy.

In parallel with his master’s degree work, he has worked with a start-up company for the past year to develop a reality-based social game called Joulebug.  The goal of Joulebug is to create a connection between the virtual world and the real one through the social platform, and make saving energy fun and attractive to everyone.

In his spare time, Joseph enjoys outdoor pursuits such as backpacking, camping, and rock climbing.  He is still involved in Boy Scouting and enjoys educating youth about the environment and conservation.  When the weather is bad, he is an avid reader and also enjoys building things out of recycled material.
