Honestly speaking –
what we want is a Rainforest!
In fact it is very simple (despite the fact that it all rests on very complicated processes). We are here to do what rainforests do very well: To nourish and make things grow. Our mission is to share knowledge, build networks and generate solutions for the 21st Century and beyond. One world in balance is our vision.
Global Citizen is also a non-profit platform that:
- INCLUDES more than 2,300 topics organised in the world’s first taxonomy on sustainability.
- FOCUSES on (something a little dry, but very important, namely) structure, overview and being systematic.
- FACILITATES co-operation between multiple stakeholders from academia, business, civil society + politics. (The ABC+ alliance).
- PAVES the way for organisations, businesses and others to strengthen themselves and each other in a profit-people-planet perspective. (The Power of organizing without organisations)
- AIMS to link the world’s “Green Gold” (students and recent university graduates) with “Grey Gold” resources, for example retired professionals.
- SERVES as a platform for concerted human effort, which has yet to realise its full potential in shaping our common future.
We do have a clear vision – our mission is to walk the talk
Our VISION is one of a global society where economic, social, environmental and demographic issues are solved to the benefit of all. We believe in citizen-to-citizen participation and in the dynamics of a globalised marked economy based on the principles of cradle-to-cradle and profit, people, planet.
Our MISSION is to assist organisations, companies and others that work with sustainability by creating a unique and independent web based platform for sharing knowledge, building networks and generating sustainable solutions. It is a platform that provides the structure and the overview which is the prerequisite for a systematic approach to generating solutions for the 21st Century and beyond.
Still, you might be asking why we are here?
Or in other words: How does Global Citizen differ from others working with sustainability? The answer is that we do not just focus on one or a few or even all topics within sustainability. We focus on all the important topics within sustainability. We are strong believers in “both and” and are very skeptical about “either or”. One thing we are certain of is that we, as a world society, can only succeed in creating a sustainable world, if we learn to handle the specific problems and the big picture at the same time – while working systematically.
This is where we have to say a few words about our taxonomy
The question is how we handle the specific problems and the big picture in practice, when it comes to sustainability? It is here our taxonomy is so useful. The taxonomy is a structure that consists of more than 2,300 parts in the forms of topics. Anything from Coal, Copper and Cattle to Political parties, NGOs and Businesses. No one can go in depth with all the topics at once but anyone can use Global Citizen to go in depth with a specific topic without losing sight of the big picture that the topic is a part of.
On a similar note, a lot of people choose to prioritize the big picture but at Global Citizen, it is impossible to focus on the big picture without also realizing how complex and intertwined the big picture is. The taxonomy makes it possible to focus without resorting to reductionism. As a matter of fact, the taxonomy makes it almost impossible to lose the sense of proportions and to underestimate the colossal task of ensuring a sustainable world. This insight is just the first step.
So, what exactly are we doing?
Global Citizen shares knowledge, builds networks and (a little further down the road) generates global solutions. We achieve this by using our taxonomy to create structure, overview and a systematic approach which allows us to include the amazing resources that exist in our society. Not least among students, job seeking academics – who we call Green Gold – as well as among pensioned professors, engineers, leaders and other actors with the necessary experience (Grey Gold).
Last but not least, we do everything in our power to engage actors (including ourselves) in solving the problems we have in common. That is the main reason why we never get tired of creating face-to-face meetings across country borders. It is there – in the meetings between people - we all get the chance to experience that we have problems, dreams and solutions in common. It is there we experience that we are all soft wired with empathy.
You are more than welcome to join the global tribe of problem-solvers!
In 2025, more than 250,000,000 people will be enrolled at higher education facilities. We feel confident in this claim: The world will be drowning in diplomas with good grades from top-ranked universities! Good grades or not, tomorrow’s heroes will be found among team players with individual drive, who can solve some of the world’s complex problems. The true problem solvers!
You are more than welcome to become a part of Global Citizen and you certainly do not have to be a hero to join (none of us got that far yet). As a matter of fact, we do not have any formal requirements to sign up. All we require is that you start out by asking yourself, if you have the drive to join forces with other actors from around the world and fight for a sustainable world.

Are you one of this worlds very engaged students?
We are happy to accept internships at Global Citizen and you do not have to be able to work from Aarhus. All you need is a computer with internet access and you will be able to work from anywhere in the world. The less good news is that we probably cannot pay you for your work. However, if we have the funds, we promise to pay you as much as we can. You are a part of what we call “Green Gold”. That has real value and of course also a price tag.
Ready to help changing the world?
At the current time, we unfortunately do not have any available positions. Well actually we do – in fact plenty – but we simply do not have the resources for even modest wages. However, that can (and hopefully will) change, so do not hesitate to send us an application. If you can supplement your application with a realistic idea as to how/where we can find money to pay your wages, then we will see you for an interview as soon as possible.
