Global Citizen is a web-based platform but there are other aspects as well. We know that it makes a crucial difference when people from different areas of expertise meet across country borders. Therefore we are very committed to setting up face-to-face meetings with clear-cut agendas and goals. I.e. meetings where we get together to cooperate on the further development of Global Citizen.
This also means that face-to-face meetings is an area that we will prioritize when we in 2010 and 2011 start sending applications to the different funds for support for Global Citizen.
We can already start to establish one of the types of face-to-face meetings that we are considering – without any costs. We are talking about local Work Shops which could typically be established in a lot of the cities that has at least one higher education institution. It is more and more common for students to do part of education in a foreign country.
This fits in well with Global Citizen’s view of the world. One of our biggest hopes is to be able to gather some of these students from a wide variety of educations and countries. We would very much like to hear from you if you have the possibility and the resources to establish a “Work Camp” in your city.
Besides the local face-to-face meetings or Work Camps we also hope to arrange larger Work Camps where several of our Editors would meet for example for a week. We have already held one of these meetings in Istanbul in February 2009. The problem with these types of events of course is that money has to be raised for travel, accommodation and meals. Our Work Camp in Istanbul was financed by the European Commission. If you have any suggestions or see any opportunities for arranging a larger Work Camp, feel free to send us a mail.
Global Citizen is still in a development phase but in time we will be able to offer more and more face-to-face meetings. Locally and internationally.
