You are very welcome to join Global Citizen as an Editor and/or Researcher. All it requires is that you have an interest in the issues that Global Citizen deal with.
As a starting point, the work as editor is still unpaid but it is our goal that we in time will be able to pay a small salary to an increasing number of Editors, typically students, who thereby also will get help in their studies. As we write, however, we only have money to pay a small amount to the interns that work full time at the main office in Aarhus.
However, what we can always offer is the inclusion in a network that is increasingly global. You will get visibility through Global Citizen and all in all you will be closer to the job you dream of getting after your studies. “Work experience” is always an issue at job interviews. Here we hope that still more and more people will benefit from referring to Global Citizen.
You will choose how many hours you will spend as an Editor. If you for example start out by updating a topic that we at the main office have already worked on, you will be able to do the work in just a few hours every month. In some cases down to two hours per month.
However if you feel up to uploading content to one or several topics from scratch – within the framework set up by us – you should be prepared to spend about 30 hours per topic and then a couple of hours each month keeping the topic updated. We know that the development of Global Citizen will take time so it is not a problem if you spend two or three months uploading content into one or several of the topics.
Under any circumstance, your work will start in what we call Blue Box. It is the Database that is attached to each topic. If the Blue Box already contains content, it is your job to check whether it is the right type of information and/or if something is missing. If you already have a special insight into the topic, you will probably be able to contribute with materials that other “problem-solvers” could benefit from gaining access to.
Once you have gotten to know Global Citizen better via the work in the Blue Box it will be time to take a closer look at the box Facts and Figures (also known as the Green Box) and the Intro Box (known as Red Box). Even though we have created a template for how the information in these boxes should be structured, it still takes a lot of work to find the right pieces of information and conveying the information in a clear and concise way.
The end goal is that the users of Global Citizen will be able to save time by using our work. This requires a lot of care and precision in the selection process.
